The Resurrection

When Ruby Case raises a boy from the dead, she creates uproar in the quiet coastal town of Stonetree. Some brand her a witch; others, a godsend. But the controversy is just the beginning. For this resurrection has awakened more than just a dead boy…

Reverend Ian Clark does not believe in miracles. Haunted by demons, both past and present, he is resigning from the ministry and has no interest in the city's spiritual climate, much less its urban legends. But he is about to get a wake-up call…

As Ruby and Reverend Clark are thrust into a desperate search for answers, they quickly realize that the forces unleashed by Ruby now threaten to destroy them. Can they overcome their own brokenness before they—and the entire town—become victims of this insidious evil?

Ruby Case, a crippled woman, faithfully attends Canyon Springs Community Church where Reverend Ian Clark is the pastor.  Ruby leads a small prayer group of three women who are asking God to shake things up and reveal His power.  One Sunday morning, as they are gathered in prayer before the morning service, Ruby has a vision of a dead tree with one green leaf.  After the service, five-year old Jilly gives Ruby a picture she drew of the vision Ruby had just hours before.  Later on, that afternoon,

Each city has its own spiritual environment, unique with its own atmosphere that creates a passageway to the supernatural.  Much like our own cities and towns, Stonetree holds a spiritual atmosphere that has opened a door to a realm of mystery, darkness, and faith.  When Ruby Case, a crippled woman with a simple faith, resurrects a young boy from the dead the town’s secrets are also restored to life.

The Resurrection was a very interesting and enjoyable read. At the heart of the story is a young pastor on the verge of walking away from his faith and embracing the idea that Christianity is no different and no better than other religions. Lukewarmness plays a big part in the book and through fiction, the author shows what can be the results of that. Of churches fighting each other instead of sin and evil, of Christians set in their ways and dragging their feet at the idea of getting involved.

Ruby Case is a quiet, church-going mother whose world is turned upside down when she raises a young boy from the dead. People start coming from all over to see Ruby and she isn’t sure what to do about it. Reverend Ian Clark, Ruby’s pastor, is about to turn in his resignation when he hears about the resurrection. He now has a decision to make about what to do with this situation. The quiet town of Stonetree will never be the same… And this may be for the better. While I did enjoy this debut novel
